Your data, your control
Delete your account
You can permanently delete your StopTap account and all associated personal data at any time. The fastest path is from inside the app — five taps, no email needed.
Steps to delete your account from the app
- Open the StopTap app on your Android device.
- Tap the Settings icon (gear, top-right of the home screen).
- Scroll to the bottom of Settings.
- Tap "Delete account".
- Confirm on the warning dialog by tapping "Delete permanently".
You'll be signed out immediately and your data is removed from our servers right away. Encrypted database backups containing residual copies are purged within 30 days as part of routine rotation, after which no copy remains anywhere.
Can't access the app? Email instead
Use this if you've already uninstalled the app or can't open it. Email our Grievance Officer:
Include in the email:
- The mobile number you registered with (so we can locate the right account).
- A subject line of "Account deletion request".
We'll confirm receipt within 48 hours and complete the deletion within 7 days of confirmation.
What gets deleted
The moment you complete the in-app deletion (or we process your email request), we permanently remove:
- Your account record (phone number, name, email if collected via Truecaller).
- All mandates associated with your account (vendor names, amounts, frequencies, dates, status).
- All mandate event history (debits, attempts, status changes).
- Aggregated background data (income band signal, app installation list).
- All Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens used for push notifications.
- Any local data on your device — handled automatically when you uninstall the app.
Encrypted database backups containing your data are purged within an additional 30 days as part of routine backup rotation. After that point, no copy of your data remains in our systems.
What we may retain (and why)
We retain a small subset of records strictly to comply with law and to prevent fraud:
- Anonymous, aggregate analytics (e.g. "how many users opened the app this week"). These records cannot be linked back to you.
- Server / firewall logs for up to 90 days, as required by Indian IT Rules. These contain IP addresses but no application-level personal data.
- Records required by tax or regulatory law, where applicable. Currently StopTap does not process payments, so this is rarely relevant.
Is deletion reversible?
No. Once we process the deletion, your data cannot be recovered. If you change your mind within the 7-day grace window, email suraj@stoptap.in from the same registered phone number and ask us to cancel the deletion. After 7 days, the data is hard-deleted and unrecoverable; you would need to create a fresh account from scratch.
Your rights under the DPDP Act, 2023
The Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 grants you the right to erasure of your personal data. The two paths above are how StopTap honours that right. If you believe your deletion request has not been processed within the stated timelines, or if you have a privacy grievance, please write to our Grievance Officer:
- Name: Suraj (Grievance Officer)
- Email: suraj@stoptap.in
- Response window: 30 days
If you remain unsatisfied, you may escalate to the Data Protection Board of India under Section 28 of the DPDP Act.
